This week's episode is a candid conversation with me and my leadership team about the event we just attended, Stu McLaren's Tribe Live 2019.
We went to this event performing what we called “The Great Experiment.” Rather than do the normal kind of networking in our hotel suite with a cocktail reception, we decided to just show up and be present for whoever came across our path.
My wonderful team… Tami Hyatt, Jenny Kerns, and Tiffany Laughter-Twining… join me this week on the show to answer the big question… did our experiment work?
([1:50]) How Deepak – the guy we hired to run the room for our special “invitation only” dinner – demonstrated he was a master marketer. I knew exactly what was happening and enjoyed watching a master at his craft.
([4:50]) What gave me the idea to hold this different kind of “get together” and why I chose not to sell anything to anyone. You might be as surprised as my friend was when I told him who gave me the idea to do this.
([6:32]) How and why I use psychology in my mastermind groups and coaching sessions. I’ve never taken any official psychology courses, but I’ve studied widely and use what I’ve learned all the time in my life and business.
([8:30]) The surprising response from the service staff that demonstrated how special the dinner we hosted really was. And they played a crucial role in the success of the evening with their expert reading of our cues.
([10:45]) The “generosity conspiracy” Tami deployed at the end of the night. It was the kind of gratitude we like to show when we receive excellent service.
([13:40]) Tiffany’s feelings about what working for our company means to her, her family, and the rest of the team. How each of them struggled before joining our team, how they’ve been able to come into their own working together, and how they love the fact that it’s okay to be completely themselves at work. In Tiffany’s words, “It’s so rad!”
([17:40]) The hard part about working for me. And though it may be hard, as Tami says, sometimes the challenges bring about the team’s best work.
([25:15]) The details of our “experiment” at Tribe Live. Why it was difficult for some of the team members to wrap their heads around it at first, and how it turned into a success.
([28:45]) Why I believe the “futurist” view of the book of Revelation is wrong. How my private chat with Tami on this subject helped her work through some personal issues.
([31:55]) How “spreadsheet” Tami, from her analytical point of view, felt about the experiment. What we were actually investing in was not a financial ROI. It was about so much more.
([36:35]) Why Tami almost didn’t go to Tribe Live and how God blessed her beyond what she had imagined possible. Props to her husband, who demonstrated his love and support when she told him she felt God needed her to go, even though it was her third trip in as many weeks.
