Some people are waving a “stupid” flag, signaling the rest of us that they are… well… stupid.

Here's how to know if you are waving “stupid flags” – and what they cost you in terms of money, repect, relationships, and opportunities. We don't leave you hanging – we'll give you some hints on …. how to stop.

Feature Segment: Are You Waving “Stupid Flags”?

You can know if you are waving “stupid flags” that cost you money, relationships, and opportunities…. and you can learn to stop waving those flags. Here are 3 questions to ask yourself before you speak:

  • Does what I’m saying or doing possibly sound like a complaint? STUPID FLAG! Complaining is stupid. But making a request is smart.
  • Does what I’m saying or doing come at a cost to someone else? STUPID FLAG! Words and actions are as painful or deadly as a fist or a knife. Make sure your humor doesn’t cost someone else. “Like a madman who throws firebrands, arrows, and death is the man who deceives his neighbor and says, “I am only joking!” Proverbs [26:18]-19
  • Does what I’m saying possibly display my ignorance? STUPID FLAG! Especially if you're about to express a heated opinion, stop and ask yourself, “How do I know this is true?”

Remember that sometimes, even if you are certain you're right, speaking your opinion won't build anyone up, nor will it “impart grace to the hearer”. (Ephesians [4:29])

test'. If the words won't bring grace, stay silent.” quote=”Before speaking, try the ‘Ephesians [4:29] test'. If the words won't bring grace, stay silent.”]

30 Day Challenge: “30 Days of No Stupid Flags” – all you need is a rubber band and commitment. Or, as Sean explained, a Sharpie and some nerves of steel.
